2011 Cadillac CTS Coupe: My Adventure at GM Training Headquarters

Hello driving enthusiasts!  Yesterday I went to the GM Training Center in Burbank to take a look at the CTS Coupe and CTS-V Coupe.  If I had to sum it all up, I'd have to say that this Coupe is definitely going to be a "drivers" car.  Let's get into a little detail though...

The CTS Coupe:

The CTS Coupe is going to be a defining moment and focal point for Cadillac.  This car will demonstrate Cadillac's Art & Science philosophy.  It is a luxury sport coupe that has been designed for visual, technical and emotional appeal.

It looks like the chief competitor will be the BMW 335i.  Let's take a look at some of the ways the new 2011 CTS Coupe will give one of Car & Driver's 10 Best a run for it's money.

  • The CTS power plant is 3.6L V6 engine with 304 hp.  Naturally aspirated with Variable Valve Timing and Dual Overhead Cams.  The 335i is also DOHC but it has only 300 hp it requires a 3.0 Twin Turbo to get there.  Traditionally this can lead to a higher cost of ownership overtime.
  • Estimated Fuel Economy is 18/27 over the BMW's 17/26.
  • Regular fuel (87 octane) runs your CTS Coupe where as Premium fuel is required for the 335i.
  • 113.4 inch Wheelbase on the CTS Coupe verses the BMW's 108.7 which will show you a nice ride while still keeping you fully engaged in the driving experience
  • The CTS Coupe has more headroom, legroom and shoulder room.
  • The CTS Coupe Premium Collection has the following standard features that are options or just available on the BMW:  leather seats, heated front seats, ventilated front seats, electronic tilt and telescoping steering wheel, remote start, Bose Audio, USB, Bluetooth, and OnStar
So you can see that Cadillac did it's homework and has produced an tech savvy driver enthusiast coupe designed to help the more affluent celebrate their success without completely draining the savings.

One thing that is important to point out here as well is that the CTS Coupe is not just a CTS sedan sans 2 doors.  Yes, there are some similarities between the two but the CTS Coupe is a stand alone vehicle that will also stand out in the sea of European coupes that drench the Los Angeles freeway system.

The CTS Coupe also features:
  • 2+2 Seating
  • 2" Lower roof line than the Sedan
  • Faster windshield angle: laid back 2 degrees.
  • Rear track 2" wider
  • Rear overhangs: 2" shorter

The CTS-V Coupe:

The CTS-V Coupe combines dramatic design with the remarkable V-Series suite of performance technologies.  It is the ultimate expression of Cadillac's Art & Science philosophy, designed to become one of the world's most desired luxury cars.

The CTS-V Coupe will launch with the following features:

  • 6.2L 556 horse Supercharged V8 engine.
  • 19' Premium multi-coat aluminum painted wheels
  • Magnetic Ride Control
  • Brembo Performance Breaks
  • Leather/Suede Recaro seats
Yes, you can get into some serious trouble with this car.  Namely the Highway patrol and your spouse!  The CTS-V sedan set the record at Nuburgring and the Coupe is poised to do 2 seconds better.  How about that?

All things considered the CTS Coupe is the Coupe to put the world on notice that you've arrived.  And not only have you arrived but you've shown up with power, style and luxury in a way that sets you apart from the status quo.
